Explore the new location and space design of Ware Library as it aims to better serve the community's needs

WF Education is delighted to have played a role in the successful relocation of Ware Library, which recently reopened. The new site (formerly situated opposite St Mary’s Church) now provides an inviting space with a variety of dedicated zones, including non-fiction, fiction, audiobooks, local history, and a specially designed children’s area where regular storytime sessions take place.

During our visit, we spoke with a student who shared their thoughts on the new facility. They expressed plans to use the library frequently, describing it as invaluable “for both research purposes and my love of literature.” They also highlighted their intention to make extensive use of the library for their A-Level coursework in English Literature and History, as well as for their Extended Project Qualification (EPQ).

The new library offers a spacious and tranquil environment, featuring an extensive collection of books across all genres. Comfortable seating is available in quieter, secluded areas, providing an ideal setting for reading and study. The library also includes several computers at the rear of the building for public use.

We enhanced the existing shelving with elements from our Everna™ range, including shelving, dens, browsers, and study desks.

Compared to the previous library, the new site feels more open, which helps to create a calm and peacefule environment.

“I appreciated the seated spaces that they have on offer, which are surroudned by bookshelves and therefore offer some privacy for those who may want to dos ome work or have a read.”

Enriching Lives, Inspiring Learning

The scheme features our Cantilibra™ shelving system, our Everna™ library furniture system tailored for young adults, a bespoke help desk, and a unique children’s area.

The children’s feature takes inspiration from the historic Riverside Gazebos, originally constructed along the River Lea in Ware during the late 18th century. At their peak in the 1830s, 25 gazebos existed; today, only 10 remain. Using old photographs as reference, WF created a reading den designed to be both practical and visually engaging, encouraging younger visitors to explore the space. The design is further enhanced by a striking riverside graphic that spans the length of the wall, adding to the overall aesthetic.

For the Young Adults area, we collaborated with a local illustrator to create a bespoke dragon graphic, specifically designed to appeal to this age group.

Our cladded Cantilibra™ shelving makes an impact with a range of graphic and brightly coloured end panels, incorporated into clever layouts which provide designated zones and casual seating areas.

With 150,000 books and materials to be incorporated into the space, planning and logistics were key to successful delivery. The result is a library open seven days a week, buzzing with students and the public.

Our talented design team would be delighted to discuss your next amazing space.
